Most patients feel little or no discomfort. A throat spray and/or mild sedation is used to keep you comfortable. The procedure takes approximately 15–30 minutes and you are monitored throughout.

You will need a clear liquid diet the day before and a prescribed bowel preparation solution to clean the colon. Specific written instructions are provided at booking. Arrange a driver as sedation is used.

Capsule endoscopy involves swallowing a tiny wireless camera in a pill. It travels through your digestive system taking thousands of images, particularly of the small bowel. It is painless and requires no sedation.

Most patients recover within 1–2 hours. If sedation was used, avoid driving for the rest of the day. You can usually eat and drink normally shortly after a standard procedure.

Most reports are available the same day or within 24 hours. Dr. Mohamed will explain findings clearly and discuss your personalised treatment plan at the follow-up.

IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) is a functional disorder without visible bowel damage. IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) — including Crohn's disease and Ulcerative Colitis — involves chronic inflammation and actual bowel damage requiring specialist treatment.
